Dreamer's Comment:

Emotionally, before all of this, I had spent the weekend in Des Moines with a friend at her house and came home yesterday very tired. I went to sleep and had the dream. We had been talking about old times and maybe that was how [the people in the dream] got into my head, but it still doesn't explain the fake ocean backdrop. The only recent changes in my diet is that I ate a ton of junk like pizza and coke while I was visiting.

Title:

The Fake Ocean

Dream: The Fake Ocean

I was back in the science room at the middle school in my home town. My teacher, Mrs. Clark was there saying something. Then I looked at the back half of the science room and it was just a huge opening to the ocean. The waves were very dark blue and white on top, but in a strange way they looked two-dimensional, like the waves used in sets for plays. The sun was burning behind the water, but it looked fake, too. I went out into the sand. There was a huge sandcastle taller then me. Someone pushed me and I fell into it. It kind of collapsed and crumbled. The sand was more of a yellow hue then what sand usually looks like. Then it kind of went on, and there was my old rival in junior high, a girl by the name of [deleted]. She was trying to write a novel to get back at me (I'm a novelist now) and it was just a copy of the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. She was sure it was going to sell better then mine did. An old friend of mine, [name deleted], was there too, and she was torn between us.

Interpretation

The subject matter is given by the location. You are in a school so the dream is about you learning about yourself with a view to improving yourself. Think of it this way, we are students of life on this earth. Also significant is the ocean and sand. The ocean represents life itself (life came from the oceans) and the sand, being the approach to the ocean, represents your approach to life. So now we know the dream is specifically addressing what you can learn about your approach to life so that you can improve yourself and quality of life.

The first thing is the science room. Science is about exploring our world and finding reasons for things. This fits in with the above but science also tends to be so technical in its evaluation of things that their original beauty and wonder is lost. This would then imply that you have a tendency to do the same thing. You would know if this is true or not but may be surprised to see your dream identifying you with this. The dream continues on with more. The blue color represents your philosophy of life (again this fits in with what we have so far), however, the color is dark. This means that you need to lighten your philosophy of life (don't be negative, expecting difficulties, etc) and we see the dream already doing this by adding white to the top of the blue. When you see two colors like this you are being asked to aspire towards the top color (hope and confidence) and eliminate the bottom color (negative philosophy of life).  You also say that the ocean looked two dimensional so again the dream is saying that by adopting these changes you will add more depth to your life. Going out into the sand is good and here you see a huge sand castle. Since sand represents your approach to life the sandcastle is the dream asking you to be more creative with your approach to life. Someone pushing you into it means that you need to push yourself into being more creative. There is obviously some resistance on your part. The sun indicates a spiritual gift you have. You have the ability to do hands-on or spiritual healing but in the dream you see this as fake so I don't think you'd go much for this.

Lastly, let's look at the characters in the dream. Everyone in the dream is you so all these people represent different aspects of you. Mrs. Clark was telling you something. If you can recall what she was saying it would be good. If you can't then think about her and what qualities does she have. Does she encourage others to get into life or does she encourage each person as an individual? Whatever positive qualities she has you also have. If you don't display them at present you have the potential to develop them. If any negative traits of hers come to mind then the dream is asking you to drop them from your way of operating.

The same is also true for the other two characters who show up later. However, this conflict also represents conflict you have (or had) with your mother. You mother has the ability to bear a grudge and you picked this up to some degree. This is the most important part of the whole dream and this knowledge lets you know what do. You need to cut the ties (it's a specific therapy) with your mother. This will, by itself, remove all the negative influence that is currently holding you back.

Dreamer's Comment on the Interpretation

Wow, Michael! I liked your interpretation, and recently some of those factors have come into my life. As for hand healing, I am Wiccan if you know what that is. It's a religion based on nature. I should try this hand healing, I have become more spiritual lately.

Lots of luck.
